A fixed-bed design is always a challenge for those tasked with designing a caravan’s interior layout, and although the Charisma provides ample wardrobe and kitchen worktop space, overall it doesn’t exude the spacious feel managed by some rivals. Swift Safari 535 2011

The bedding, however, has been cleverly designed, and those who appreciate a user-friendly, well equipped kitchen may well want to beat a path to Swift’s door.

Swift managed to combine a caravan with high spec features with an affordable price tag for the 2011 Swift Safari 535 exterior has a bodyshell with one piece, thick, 5000 series aluminium side walls, ‘Storm’ alloy wheels and one piece front and rear GRP panels, built on an AL-KO galvanised chassis with shock absorbers and AL-KO stabiliser hitch.  Internally, the Charisma shares most of the luxury and equipment found in its bigger brothers and Swift managed to produce a lightweight caravan which feels well-built and comfortable without feeling spartan in the least. At the front of the Charisma, 3 panoramic double glazed windows provide an excellent view from the familiar front seating arrangement which comprised two large bench seats, with spring-hinged storage underneath which convert into a large double bed, using the pull-out slats provided.  There is a chest of drawers, with a pull-out coffee table and a larger fold down table in it’s own storage locker allows seating for 4 at mealtimes.  The seating is upholstered in warm tones, with matching curtains and scatter cushions, and the furniture, including the overhead ‘aircraft-style’ lockers in the lounge area, is finished in an attractive ‘Tanganica’ wood grain, set off by brushed aluminium handles.  The flooring throughout the caravan is heavy-duty ‘traffic’ woodblock effect vinyl with removable ‘drop-in’ carpets. There is a Heki 2 rooflight in the ceiling above the lounge allowing fresh air and light into the caravan. All the windows in this caravan are double glazed units, featuring night latches, black out blinds and fly screens.

The 2011 Swift caravans all had kitchen restyles and the Charisma features a built-in microwave, 107 litre stainless steel-effect, electronic ignition fridge, Thetford domestic-style oven and dual fuel hob with 800w hotplate, and an attractive granite-look moulded sink and removable drainer with chrome mixer tap.  The kitchen has additional storage lockers with positive catches for secure storage on the move and there are clever pull-out baskets, cutlery drawers and attractive laminate worktop space. At the rear of the Charisma, the bedroom features a large fixed bed in ‘French’ offset layout, with a luxury pocket sprung mattress ensuring a great night’s sleep.  The mattress lifts up on gas struts to access the huge amount of storage space under the bed and there are more overhead lockers providing additional storage in the bedroom.  Opposite the bedroom is a handy en-suite washbasin and in the rear corner a domestic-style door leads to the washroom, in wet-room layout, with a a fully lined gloss white shower with separate mixer tap and adjustable shower head and a Thetford C-250 electric flush toilet.  A bi-fold door stops the toilet getting wet when showering.

As you would expect, the Charisma is equipped with a up to date RCD protected electrical system including 3 230v sockets and 2 TV points.  There is also a radio/CD/MP3 player with i-pod input.  Ample levels of lighting is provided by a mix of LED task lights, halogen adjustable downlighters and 230v mains lights in the front seating area.

A Truma Ultra store dual fuel gas and 800w mains electric storage water heater and high power pump ensures a strong supply of hot water to the kitchen and wash room, whilst the Truma Ultraheat dual fuel gas and mains electric heating system provides blown heat to living, sleeping and washroom areas, ensuring that the caravan is warm and comfortable, whatever the season!
